Tarrin shares how he discovered rowing through his family before eventually joining UB Rowing. Now serving on the club’s executive board, he is helping the team grow and create new opportunities for students to discover collegiate rowing.

The club is placing a major emphasis on recruitment this season. After having 12–14 active members in the fall and 8–10 in the spring last year, UB Rowing is working to bring more students into the program. Their first practice of the season welcomed 18 people, with participation now much more evenly split between men and women.

Recruiting New Rowers at the University at Buffalo

Tarrin talks with Adrien and Kate about the club’s creative recruitment efforts, including putting a rowing shell on Lake LaSalle and bringing ergs onto campus for racing demonstrations. These events give students an opportunity to experience rowing and learn more about the team.

UB Rowing’s Fall Racing Plans

UB Rowing is planning to attend several fall regattas, including the Head of the Genesee and potentially the Mohawk Classic. The team is also deciding between the Head of the Fish and Head of the Schuylkill.

Tarrin, Adrien, and Kate also discuss the importance of the UB rowing alumni network and how alumni support could help the club continue to grow.
